Quasi-selection rules for inter-subband absorption and the
interpretation of free carrier absorption in quasi 2D quantum

We point out the existence of efficient optical quasi-selection rules for inter-subband transitions in disordered quasi 2D heterostructures. This allows to better understand the linewidth of these transitions and to quantitatively assess the magnitude of the Free Carrier Absorption in cascade structures. The accuracy of different models currently used for gain/absorption is discussed.
