Critical scalings in nonequilibrium condensation of exciton-polaritons    [PDF]

We investigate the applicability of the Kibble-\.Zurek mechanism of defect formation in a phase transition in an intrinsically nonequilibrium system. We consider the specific case of condensation of exciton-polaritons in a one-dimensional nanowire. We find that the system does not follow the adiabatic-impulse-adiabatic scenario of the Kibble-\.Zurek theory. Nevertheless, we predict that power-law-like critical scalings result from the competition between characteristic timescales present in the system.
