A unifying viewpoint is given to lattice potentials generated by aperiodic one-dimensional sequences, in terms of their local reflection or parity symmetry properties. Examining representative aperiodic binary lattices, we show that they exhibit characteristic distributions of their local reflection symmetries. In particular, we demonstrate that the sequential spacings of local symmetry axes typically concentrate on few-point return maps, and that their associated trajectories along the lattice follow the underlying inflation rule. The long-range order of the potential is thereby characterized in a compellingly simple way by its local symmetry dynamics.
