Reproducibility of the quantum Hall effect    [PDF]

Félicien Schopfer, Wilfrid Poirier
This work reports on the comparison of four GaAs-based quantum resistance standards mounted in a Wheatstone bridge. It shows that the quantum Hall resistance at Landau level filling factor nu=2 can be reproducible with a relative uncertainty of 32x10^(-12) in the dissipation-less limit of the quantum Hall effect regime. In presence of dissipation, for example caused by the measurement current flowing, the Hall resistance plateau tilts proportionally to the longitudinal resistivity leading to a deviation from perfect quantization which increases with the filling factor deviating from the integer value.
