We study the 2D band-structure of the stand-alone graphene in the context of the bound states immersed into the 3D continuum of scattering states. Depending on the symmetry of the {\bf k} vector, the true bound states either survive in the continuum or disappear. By use of a nearly exactly solvable model we argue that the simple picture of bound states converting into resonances is not probably true for graphene bands above the vacuum level.
