We present a theory for the description of energy relaxation in exciton-polariton condensates based on a microscopic Hamiltonian for polariton-phonon interactions based on Monte Carlo type treatment of the phonon field. This approach, which also fully accounts for polariton-polariton interactions, coherent pumping and polariton lifetime, offers a complete description of experiments in which exciton-polariton condensates are seen to relax their energy as they propagate in real space and time.
