Towards a magnonic thermal diode    [PDF]

Using micromagnetic simulations, we have investigated spin dynamics in a spin-valve nano-structure in the presence of a thermal gradient. The direction and the intensity of the gradient allow to manipulate different spin wave modes selectively. The system reaches a non equilibrium stationary state where the precessions of the two layers are phase-locked, and heat and magnetization currents flow through the system. Depending on the direction and the intensity of the gradient, the system behaves as a conductor or as an insulator for those currents, and resembles a magnonic version of a thermal diode. Our study yelds promising opportunities for applications in spin-caloritronics and nano-phononics devices.
